1920's Bachelor Talc Bottle

Bachelor Talc in a tall metal tin. Possibly from the Twenties or Thirties? The way the silhouetted man, a dashing and available bachelor no doubt, is dressed makes me think of those gentlemen from Gosford Park.

Bachelor Talc
I have seen photos of this same talc container, but shorter and wider, as if designed to dash on to armpits specifically.

Here is some history about Antiperspirants and Deoderants from Wikipedia:

"In 1888, the first commercial deodorant, Mum, was developed and patented by a U.S. inventor in PhiladelphiaPennsylvania, whose name has been lost to history.[2] The small company was bought by Bristol-Myers in 1931 and in the late 1940s, marketing executive Edward Gelsthorpe decided to develop an applicator based on the newly invented ball-point pen.[2]"

Talc, or Talcum Powder scientifically is a mineral composed of hydrated magnesium silicate with the chemical formula H2Mg3(SiO3)4 or Mg3Si4O10(OH)2. It can be found occurring naturally in and with Soapstone. Soapstone feels smooth and slippery, which can be pleasing when rubbed on a bachelor.

More Wikipedia info:
"By the later 19th century, the term "bachelor" had acquired the general sense of "unmarried man". The expression bachelor party is recorded 1882. In 1895, a feminine equivalent "bachelor-girl" was coined, replaced in US English by the somewhat humorous "bachelorette" by the mid-1930s. After World War II, this terminology came to be seen as antiquated, and has been mostly replaced by the gender-neutral term "single" (first recorded 1964). In England and Wales, the term "bachelor" remained the official term used for the purpose of marriage registration until 2005, when it was abolished in favour of "single."[5]"

Talc can be used as an antiperspirant and deodorant, when scented like Bachelor Talc is. It can also be used below the belt to avoid, um, chafing, of the ball area.

Here is a little more info about it from:

"Quote: Ball powder. We're not kidding.

Balla Powder for Men is the ideal anti-chafing and anti-wetness solution for clammy sacks. Guaranteed to prevent the dreaded "bat wing" syndrome, this special version of Balla Powder for Men is all cool and tingly, for guys who need a little extra zip in their shorts. Can be sprinkled into your fudgies for all-day-long comfort and dryness.

A fabulous post-workout treatment, Balla Powder for Men can also be used between your cheeks, as well as on fetid feet and aromatic armpits."

It seems that Grampa's Talc Powder is getting a modern look again. I also saw a young fella sauntering down the street smoking a smart looking pipe today. A pipe!

Lorie Perfumers - Toronto Boston Nottingham
Not much information can be found about Lorie Perfumers, though this photo implies that Toronto was more of a centre for them than Boston or Nottingham.

Bachelor Talcum Powder tin:

Five inches tall.
Two inches wide.
One inch thick.
110 grams weight.
Still has some talc in it.
Smells flowery, but masculine.

To try and find more info I put "Bachelor Talc" into the Ebay search and this popped out:
Kathleen Blackshear - Elephant Signed Wood Block Print
It has nothing to do with Edwardian Talc, but I love it! A modern era, modern art, polygon cubist elephant. Fantastic!
